Why it’s always a good idea to polish your boat.
This may sound strange,
but the truth is that many boat owners spend inordinate amounts of time on
their boat’s housekeeping rather than enjoying the use of their vessels. For many
people who own boats, the boats are entirely used for recreational purposes and
so it doesn’t make much sense to spend so much time sprucing up the boat instead
of sailing the seas. Cleaning and maintaining a boat is absolutely important, but
wouldn’t it be better if boat owners took to using smarter, cheaper and more
convenient methods to keep their boats in shape so they can spend more time having
fun?
In addition to using
better techniques to clean their boats, boat owners should look out for technologies
that can make the maintenance of their vessels easier. One of these techniques,
which is widely taken for granted – but can
make a lot of difference – is waxing and
polishing boats.
Applying a coat of boat polish after washing your boat can
quickly add to the quality of its appearance while helping you to save big on
maintenance expenses. Numerous benefits accrue from regular use of boat polish. First, polishing a boat’s
surface helps extend the life of that glossy shine very much cherished by boat
owners. People want their boats to always shine like new but the tarnishing effects
of the water and sunlight won’t let this happen for long. When you polish a
boat, two things happen. First you will be burnishing the boat’s surface and making
it glossier, and second, you will be applying a layer of wax (if you are using
a polish that contains wax) that will protect the underlying paint layer from
the effects of sea water.
Another benefit of
polishing your boat is that it reduces the overall maintenance cost. A well
polished boat will not need frequent paintjobs (which costs thousands of dollars).
In between paintjobs you can use boat
polish to sustain your boat’s shine.
Polishing your boat is
not a backbreaking exercise. The first thing you have to do is clean the boat
very well. Cleaning is important because you don't want to apply wax over the
impurities that you are trying to avoid in the first place. Use a gentle,
preferably biodegradable, detergent to wash the boat’s hull until it’s
thoroughly clean. With the boat clean and dry, apply boat polish according to instructions. You may also want to finish
off with a coat of wax if your polish does not contain wax (although in most
cases the polish should suffice).
